Southwest Jiaotong University

"Chuang Yuan" seminar for postgraduate students in lecture hall

Report title:

Numerical method of smooth particle hydrodynamics (SPH) and its application in geological hazard simulation

Keynote speaker: Chong Peng, researcher (Vienna Agricultural University of Austria)

Lecture Time: January 4, 2017 (Wednesday) 10:00 am

Lecture Venue: The first conference room of X4520 Geoscience College, Xipu Campus

Speaker Profile:

Peng, a researcher at the Geotechnical Engineering Institute at Vienna Agricultural University, Austria, bachelor and Ph. D., Tsinghua University. Dr. Peng has mainly focused on the geotechnical calculation mechanics and the numerical analysis of geological disasters. In recent years, Dr. Peng has published 21 papers, including 10 international top SCI periodicals (7 for the first or corresponding author), developed two large-scale engineering calculation program, which can be used for landslides and debris flow simulation. The coupling method of finite element and radial point interpolation meshless is proposed, and an numerical method for the simulation of landslide and debris flow is established. Combining the theory of critical state andBagnold particle-water flow, the new theory reveals the evolution law of the corresponding forces in the whole process of debris flow with the flow state, establishes the constitutive model of debris flow material, and develops a meshless particle method based on the updated Lagranges type.

Introduction of the Lecture:

The smooth particle fluid dynamics (SPH) is a new numerical simulation method, which uses material points to disperse the simulated region, and solves the engineering problem by tracking the motion and state variables of the material points. This method is suitable for complex geotechnical analysis and large-scale parallel computation without the use of computational grids and the integration of total stiffness matrices. This lecture based on the introduction of the SPH methodology, in recent years, the authors have applied SPH to two kinds of typical and complex geological hazards-landslide and mud-rock simulation analysis, including: (1) Single phase SPH geotechnical material simulation method; (2) Multi-phase mixture theory based method for calculating multilayer SPH particles (3) The SPH program based on CPU-GPU large-scale parallel computation can be used for landslide or slope stability analysis and the dynamic simulation of debris flow initiation, flow and deposition.
